JERSEY CITY- Arnold Bettinger, former Ward C celebrated councilman, announced today at a press conference in front of Dancing Fried Chicken on Baldwin Avenue that he was running for the position of Hudson County Executive on the Irish Parliamentary Party ticket. The IPP has not run a candidate since 1918 and the party was primarily associated with Irish nationalist Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to the House of Commons at Westminster within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, but this doesn't put off Bettinger, who is of the Jewish faith and a citizen of the US, because in the words of his spokesperson "I think his decision will appeal to a lot of the seniors at Grandview Terrace Apartments. And we all know that they are the ones that decide on who gets what position in the county"
When I asked him what he meant he replied "Well I might as well let the cat out of the bag, "
According to Arnold's spokesperson who kept calling me "Mac", the Secret Grandview Illimunati as he calls it goes right up there with the recent revival of myths such as the DaVinci Code and the Jersey Devil.
"See the seniors at that building are the ones that really run the County. Not the HCDO or the JCDO or any of that hullabaloo. Why do you think we're up there with cheese doodles and Entenmann's cakes every election? We have to keep the cat fat and happy. I know for a fact Lou Manzo didn't get elected Mayor last election because one of his vans dropped off but forgot to pick up one of one of the tenants in front of the Library voting location. That was the coup de grâce."
I said it was too hard to believe.
"Hey you think they're watching Whoopi Goldberg movies up there on Thursday nights but 'Thursday Movie Nights' are a code for 'let's have a sitdown and see how to handle this situation'" he explained.

JERSEY CITY- Residents were puzzled as former Jersey City Mayor Anthony Cucci checked himself into Christ Hospital rehabilitation as an out-patient this week for his recent addiction to the Jersey Journal's new Sodoku puzzles. When this reporter called his home yesterday evening for a statement Cucci had to turn down his television. "Hold on a minute Whiskers, I can't hear you. Let me turn down Benson!" he barked as he resumed his emotional tale of how one game became two games and two games became five. "I soon realized after I finished putting all the numbers in order I broke out in a sweat. I began pacing the room. My hands got clammy, my legs hurt and pretty soon I found myself waiting in front of the newsstand at 5 in the morning so I could grab a Jersey and do the puzzle. I was done by 6. Then I needed more. So I got this book at 99 Cent Dream...." He is expected to make a full recovery.

IN OTHER EVENTS: Seven months after Gerry McCann's Messenger Pigeon business fell victim to hard times the former Mayor's camp sent out a press release stating:

"On Monday July 31, 2006, Jersey City Entrepeneur Gerald McCann purchased the famed Twan's Lunch Truck. In the course of the next few weeks it will be repainted and renamed "The Portable Polack" from which he will peddle his fine Polish meats and cheeses on not only Montgomery Street but also in County Parks where a face painting stand will be featured next to the vehicle on weekends.###"

When this reporter called McCann wondering whether the truck would be available in Ward F, the site of his failed eateries, he replied via e-mail, "No. I know that Ward is dying for my blueberry pierogi. But you know what? Ward F will have to find me..I'll make 'em want it. That's business. That's what I do."
