Default Newport Neighborhood Association warns residents to stay away from park

WARNING: NEWPORT PARK POSES DANGER TO PEOPLE AND PETS

The NNA and NWA are warning residents not to come into contact with the lawn or dirt in the small park at the end of Newport Parkway. Presently, samples of the soil have been given to a lab for testing, and we hope to have the results by Friday, or no later than Monday. We understand from the doctors (PhD), who are testing the soil that it takes several days for the incubation period to take place, and thus, we will not get the results until later in the week. It is very possible that the final results of the biological testing will demonstrate that the bacteria is too numerous to count, which indicates a very serious problem. Some of the symptoms people may experience include stomach pains, vomiting, diarrhea, if you have ingested it, or you can burn your eyes, or develop rashes, if your skin or eyes come into contact. There is a long list of other medical problems that can develop from contact with dog waste. If you experience any of these symptoms, you must see a doctor immediately, as theywill not go away on their own.

A second test being conducted by the doctors is called Priority Pollutant +40, which looks for chemical problems, including toxins and metals. We should have the results next week.

FYI, the NWA has been fighting with the city, specifically, Rodney Hadley's office to get the park cleaned-up. Some months ago our group approached Rodney Hadley, from the city's parks and recreation department, with a request for a garden in the park, and we formed a garden club, which was subsequently advertised by us in two local newspapers. Although we did get a verbal okay from the city, Rodney Hadley turned around, and gave our project to another group, which is run by Robert Vivien. Apparently, Hadley gave the project to Robert Vivien, he says, at Janet Allen's urging. Janet CENSORED does not reside in Newport, and out of spite recenty formed a group to steal our project. However, as far as Hadley is concerned, we believe there is also a political motive, but you can draw your own conclusions from the fact that this all occurred after our Newport group began insisting the city mow and clean-up the lawn, which is saturated with dog waste and urine.

We are still fighting the city to get the park cleaned-up. Samples of the soil have been taken to an independent lab in order to get an impartial. non-political, result.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN ANY PAPER GIVEN TO YOU BY ROBERT VIVIEN, AS YOU ARE RELEASING THE CITY, AND VIVIEN OF LIABILITY SHOULD YOU BE HURT, OR GET ILL FROM CONTACT WITH INFECTED OR POLLUTED SOIL. In other words, you will be signing away your rights.

Thank you for posting. I'm not signing anything, and don't plan to attend. That's a fecal matter park.

This is great! What all this chemical analysis will reveal for the first time is not the presence of dog poop, but the presence of other non-poop related chemical toxins present in the soil throughout Newport.

Jaime and Lefrak will have their hands full once the results are released to the public and the JJ. Can't wait to see the fallout from this meltdown!

That park is owned by the Port Authority. They will be the only ones to have a Sonia freakout.

We hear Lefrak is not happy about the testing, but can't stop it because it's not on his property. There are two tests, chemical and micro-biological. Sonia has been asking the city to clean up the lawn for some time, but Hadley didn't want to admit there's a problem with the soil, or even check it out.

i dont know any of these people but i even i can see what a transparent attempt this is to stop something she's got no right to stop. Last month she wanted to plant on it herself, now she's a hero for uncovering a toxic dump? insanity.

As far as we know, the NWA hasn't called the park a "toxic dump", their argument is based on the extensive dog waste and urine in the park, and they are also having a thorough chemical test done, which should disclose different poisons, like toxins, metals and other corrosives. We believe there are toxins in the ground, but we do not know how serious a problem exists. That's why we have ordered the tests.

Sonia's group wanted to plant a garden in the area, but most certainly not until the lawn was cleaned, and so it was made a condition of their offer, which apparently the city did not go along with. But, the NWA has a responsibility to the Newport community to find out what's in the soil, and has gone forward with the tests.

We're sure Sonia hasn't considered the "hero" angle, but that might be the case if toxins are uncovered.

what you gonna say if the tests show the soil contaminated due to the construction of newport? sheetrock and insulation fibers, oil drip from loading and concrete trucks, lead debris, granulated cement.......

it's a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

The question is whether the soil is polluted, and needs to be cleaned. The Priority Pollutant +40 tests covers a wide variety of chemical problems, including toxins, metals, etc.., all of which can be harmful to humans. I don't think Sonia is interested in any particular chemicals. Her goal is to get the soil cleaned up, which is what the city should have done in the first place.
