Committee of Ordinary People doing an Extraordinary Thing Against AMB Warehouse Project
To: All Jersey City Council Members
We find out as we go through life we only need three things, something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for. Hope is a powerful word, for human beings are riddled with uncertainty, but are blessed with hopeful imaginations. From the time our ancestors first painted stories on the walls of caves to the cotton fields in the Deep South, to the equal rights movement of the sixties, these two themes have threaded their way into the fabric of our lives.
We worry about putting food on the table, whether we will be laid off at work, whether we can take care of our ageing parents. We worry about the war, terrorism & our boys & girls overseas and never, never giving up on HOPE. This word may offer solace and perhaps even a lesson. For some HOPE is a walking“ working dream” ( Aristotle ) or “ and anchor of the soul” ( the Bible ) or simply a passion for the possible which is what we have here today and now.
‘HOPE has two beautiful daughters: anger ( at the way things are ) and courage ( to see that they do not remain the same) “ St Augustine.
Look to the past for strength at those who had that courage to see things did not remain that way. Courage is what the Committee of Ordinary People doing an Extraordinary Thing will ask of you to VOTE NO TO DECEPTION, VOTE NO TO AMB WAREHOUSE.
AMB promises 300 jobs for a tenant they do not have, DECEPTION.
The key to jobs is education, education and education. This committee will take on the responsibility of being the job monitor and report back to your constituents on job progress on a regular bases if you vote yes for AMB.
AMB traffic studies say its ok to bring 220 trucks during peak hours with a total of five hundred during a 24/7 operation THIS IS A TOTAL ACT OF LUNACY and full of DECEPTION. The Department of Transportation has given this area a grade of F for conditions which can only get worse without AMB.
AMB will only add pollution, noise, pot holes, and an overflow of everyday traffic to side streets, those of us who travel 1 & 9 will never be able to use the road again because it will be a PARKING LOT FOR AMB TRUCKS. DON’T YOU SEE THAT!
Now I like Mayor Healy, we provided for him support dollars & votes in the past election it is our HOPE to see eye to eye on future issues. But he lacks foresight & vision. First we experienced no sincerity at all at that community meeting on April 27 leaving us with the impression that this was rubberstamped and that’s that. Then we were informed of this great business partnership with AMB, it just does not add up.
The Archdioceses of Newark is contributing nothing -- which is what they have contributed to their property for the past eighty years. The fence is still the same “O Mary don’t you Weep no More”
If you lack courage and vote yes for DECEPTION it will cost the city five times that amount because this project is a long-term economic disaster. We urge you to hold off for the next project with people, homes, cars (NO TRUCKS ) & open space. We are a great city because of our different cultures; there is no culture in trucks. AMB is big business that could care less about Jersey City.
“Listen to the echoes of those souls which are loved ones dearly departed”
There are one hundred eighty eight chromium sites in Jersey City a heavy metal contaminant.
PJP Landfill EPA ID# NJ980505648
Council members you need to inform all of us on how safe PJP is moving forward. Is venting going on now? Will there be venting in the future? Another DECEPTION who will do the final clean up? Who will pay for the last stage of capping & venting? Will it be Waste Management, EPA, NJEPA, or AMB? Were will the money come from? Will it come from EPA, NJEPA, Brown Field dollars or AMB? Until this information becomes public record it’s considered a Deception.
Our committee will be working hard these next two weeks getting the word out to urge you to Vote No Against Deception. We will be seeking radio time, advertisements in local papers, billboards. Plus, we have hired a telemarketing company to work with our chair people to contact your constituents located in the following wards to set the record straight:
Ward C will have two chair people
Ward E one person
Ward F one person
Ward A three people
We will also be meeting with the trade unions to discuss AMB labor practices.
Our proposal for the land is the following, combine
Brown Field Dollars with
Green Acre Funds
Habitat for Humanity as partners
To build affordable housing for the poor, elderly, physically challenged with open space. Let the east side have the million dollar homes and let the west be for the less fortunate. We will convince the Archdioceses of Newark that it is in their best interest to donate the land for this cause to improve their damaged image.
Vote Against Deception!
Vote No to the AMB Warehouse Project!
